Description

Calculus is an important building block in the education of any professional who uses quantitative analysis. In this course we introduce the concepts that are particularly relevant to informatics and computational science. After finishing this course, students possess the mathematical skills required for solving basic problems in a formal and structured way and they will have developed good understanding of differential and integral calculus.

Contents
In this course we cover the following topics: numbers, sequences, convergence, series, functions, continuity, differentiation, integration. We mainly stick to real numbers and functions in one variable. Whenever possible, we highlight the applications of the theoretical concepts taught in the lectures and part of the homework assignments and exercise classes are devoted to the implementation of numerical algorithms that help to practically experience the mathematical concepts.

Teaching Mode
Two lessons (lecture or exercise classes) of two hours each per week. A combination of graded assignments and a final exam determines the grade. Attendance is mandatory.
