The Changing Landscape

Earth, water, vegetation, wind: the elements of landscape are constantly changing and the landscape with them. But the man-landscape relationship also develops unceasingly. In order to intervene in the territory it is crucial to understand the cultural and natural processes at work in it and their interactions. In addition to interpreting the landscape through reflections on scale, space, image and the relations created between them, the course introduces the instruments and methods of analysis. Basic elements such as topography, processes and vegetation will be presented in the introductory lectures and then explored in detail through projects that embody these aspects of the topic. All the practical exercises deal with an area of Mendrisio and its surroundings.
