Biography

Silvia Santini graduated in Telecommunication Engineering with summa cum laude from the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, in May 2004 with a Master's Thesis on "Globalized Likelihood Ratio Test Detection Techniques in Subsurface Sounding Radars." During her studies she spent an academic year abroad (September 2000 - July 2001) at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich) in Zurich, Switzerland. Between March and May 2003 she joined the Medical Imaging Group atPhilips' Research Laboratories in Aachen, Germany, for a full time internship. 

In Septemeber 2004 Silvia moved again to Switzerland and joined Prof. Friedemann Mattern's Distributed Systems Group at the Department of Computer Science of ETH Zurich as a PhD student. She completed her PhD Thesis on "Adaptive Sensor Selection Algorithms for Wireless Sensor Networks" in October 2009 and has then been employed as a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Mattern's group until September 2011.

From November 2010 until February 2011 she joined Leonidas Guibas's research group at Stanford University as a visiting scholar. From October 2011 until July 2014, she was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of TU Darmstadt, Germany, where I headed theWireless Sensor Networks Lab.

Since August 2014, she is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Computer Science at TU Dresden, Germany, where she heads the Embedded Systems Lab.

In September 2016, Silvia will join the Faculty of Informatics of USI as an Associate Professor.

Research

Silvia Santini's research focus is on wireless sensor and actuator networks, mobile sensing, cyber-physical systems and stretches to the domains of ubiquitous computing and the internet of things. For an up-to-date list of Silvia's publications please refer to her Google scholar profile.
