Between 1989 and 2001 he has taught as a lecturer at the Università Cattolica (campus Brescia and Milan).

Raffaele De Berti's research activity has focused recently, on the one hand, on the history of Italian film from the beginning of the 20th century till the Fifties, with particular attention for film criticism, for the study of paratexts in the broad meaning of the term (photonovels, posters, feature articles on film, illustrated magazines), for interventions on cinema by intellectuals, for cinema rubrics in journals for literature and other arts; on the other hand his research has concentrated of the cinematographic production of specific authors, such as Federico Fellini, and on the actor as a 'divo', with the cases of Rodolfo Valentino and Isa Miranda. Furthermore, his research has covered the relationships between cinema and other media, between Hollywood and Italian cinema of the same period, with particular attention to the function of cinema in relation to the "invention of Italian identity". Ultimately, his research has extended to the relationship between cinema and photography from the Twenties to the Fifties in Italy and Europe.
