Biography

Italian poet and essayist Antonella Anedda-Angioy was born and brought up in Rome. She received a classical education and graduated cum laude in Italian Modern Literature at La Sapienza (Rome University). She was awarded a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Oxford. She comes from a Sardinian family and has spent a great deal of her life between the Italian capital and La Maddalena - a small island off the north eastern coast of Sardinia -, which played a major influence on her poetry and prose production. Anedda has published five poetry collection books and translated many classical and modern poets into Italian, including Ovid, Philippe Jaccottet and Anne Carson. Her poetry works have been awarded the Montale, Dedalus, Dessì, and Naples Prizes. Salva con Nome (2012) was awarded the very prestigious Viareggio-Repaci Prize. Anedda ’ s four published essay books are mainly concerned with literature and arts. Her last prose work is Isolatria. She received the Pushkin Prize for her essays and poems

An English edition of a selection of her poetry collections, Archipelago, translated by Jamie McKendrick, was published by Bloodaxe in 2014.

Antonella is a lecturer in Italian Modern Literature at the University of Lugano, Switzerland. She previously taught at the Universities of Siena and Rome Her most recent publication is the poetry collection Historiae (Einaudi, 2018) that was awarded several Prizes.

Recently she received the Premio Tirinnanzi for her poetic career.

In September 2019 she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Sorbonne University (Paris IV) for her literary works.

She is working at a new book of proses, Geografie.
