Anna Picco Schwendener

Biography

Anna Picco-Schwendener is a postdoctoral researcher at the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) and a scientific collaborator at USI’s eLearning Lab (https://www.usi.ch/en/university/info/elab). She got a PhD in Communication Sciences with a thesis on “Social Dimensions of Public Large-Scale Wi-Fi Networks: The Cases of a Municipal and a Community Wireless Network".

She is currently in charge of the project CCdigitallaw (www.ccdigitallaw.ch), which aims at building up a competence center in digital law for Swiss Higher Education Institutions and is a lecturer of the courses Online Communication Design and E-Government. Furthermore, she is part of the Operative Unit of the Lugano Living Lab - L*3 (https://luganolivinglab.ch) and works on various projects such as the Agora Project MAPAW (Making a Privacy Aware World) and the Interreg Project MARKS. Within the USI UNESCO Chair (UNESCO Chair in ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism in World Heritage Sites) she is responsible for the projects “Machu Picchu – seen through the eyes of Fernando Astete” and “Exploring World Heritage & Sustainable Tourism through the lens of Heinz Plenge”, which both foster sustainable tourism in World Heritage sites.

Her research focuses on e-Government, online communication, municipal and community wireless networks, usage practices, motivations, eLearning, and digital law aspects.

In the past she participated in various other projects such as: DMLawTool (https://dmlawtool.ccdigitallaw.ch/); DICE; OIKONET (www.oikonet.org) or Mobile-Uni App. Furthermore, she was a teaching assistant of the course Digital Fashion Communication: An Introduction (2018/2019). 

She grew up in the German speaking part of Switzerland and graduated with a degree in Communication Sciences with a major in Communication Technologies from the Università della Svizzera italiana. After her degree she worked for several years in the communication and IT field of an important steel trading company (Duferco SA) in Lugano, being in charge of the company’s Intranet.
