Architectures of Trauma (MSTAA)

People

Bernardi A.

Teacher

Description

The 20th century witnessed the traumatic experiences arising from the world wars, the horrors of the Shoah and other carnages. Collective catastrophes of this kind inevitably mark a moment of rupture and discontinuity in their artistic-literary representation, which requires interpretation beyond any celebratory rhetoric. The course intends to investigate the crucial points in the transition from the monuments to the fallen of World War I to the memorials and Holocaust museums, presenting the different architectural typologies used to represent the great tragedies of the 20th century and the debate over their artistic representability.
