Description

In the first semester, we will construct an idea of "Casa Povera". It should not be related to poverty but to a synthesis of the program of a single-family house. The essential idea of living will be discussed and the expression of materials will be regarded as the first step of imagination. The intention is to make students conscious of relations connected to a specific site, social context, and cultural heritage. Sustainability will be considered. For the first exercise, students, working in pairs, will analyse two buildings and compare their cultural densities with respect to typology, context, public and private areas, routes through the spatial sequence of each building, structure, materials (Vila Matilde, Terra e Tuma, Sao Paolo, 2011 - Azuma House, Tadao Ando, Osaka, 1975). To design a single-family house, students will work on the same sites of two basic Brazilian architectures, Casa Das Canoas, by Niemeyer and House of the Architect, by Bernardes, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
