Introduction to Load-Bearing Structures in Architecture 3
People
Description
The course in Structures 3 is focused on the study of the structures of space. The topic is dealt with by starting from a series of lectures on the methods of analysis of hyperstatic systems with elastic and plastic behaviour, insights into the role of residual stresses in constructions and the stability problems of compressed elements. The map of plane structures is completed with the respective spatial forms through the superposition of elementary structures. Networks of ropes and membranes result from the combination of ropes. Vaults, domes and shells are obtained by combining arches. Geometric insights and reflections concerning the efficiency of structures reveal the organisation of space structures in keeping with orthogonal curvilinear systems. This compositional rule gives rise to the study of funicular structures with compensated space thrust, spatial lattices, floor slabs and inclined slabs.
