New and Existing Structures

Description
In the BSc courses, structures are presented in keeping with a thematic path: the basics are followed by the study of the structures of the plane, the understanding of structures in space and the analysis of buildings. In subsequent semesters the focus is on materials: concrete, timber and steel structures. The fragmentation of the disciplinary field of construction as it is presented for educational purposes is not reflected in the architect’s activity, where the development of a project requires a continuous dialogue between the different aspects intrinsic to structures: from the conception to the choice of materials, the constructional processes, etc. These themes, which can be summed up generally in the discipline of the builder, are the subject of the course presented here.
