Description

The architect is the central player in designing sustainable choices, starting from the early phases of the project. The strategies adopted affect not just environmental objectives (energy and materials), but also economic factors (value and durability), and have social implications (comfort and affordability). The course seeks to provide the tools for sustainable project management in all its phases. The future architect has to understand the issues and cope with conflicts between objectives, while interpreting feedback from specialists and establishing priorities in all phases of the project. The course combines theoretical treatment with detailed presentation of examples of completed works certified as sustainable.

Objectives

Course objectives: know the sources of data related to ecological issues and to understand their definitions; understand the sustainability assessment schemes currently used, for the integration of principles in the design phase; develop critical skills on sustainability assessment criteria, for defining needs and setting priorities in the project phase; understand the parameters and quantities related to sustainability assessment, for management in the project phase and for dialogue with experts and consultants.
