Description
3D geometry is fundamental to many applications, including virtual characters for animated motion pictures, interactive design of cars and airplanes, and complex simulations of materials and matter. This course mainly focuses on the initial step of the whole geometry processing pipeline, namely on surface reconstruction, that is, on turning a 3D point cloud into a triangle mesh surface, using classical as well as machine learning approaches.
Objectives
In this course, the students will learn about the latest techniques for surface reconstruction, one of the core topics in geometry processing.
Teaching mode
In presence
Learning methods
The course starts with a series of lectures that provide the background and basic knowledge on the topic. Afterwards, each student will present a recent research paper in a seminar-style presentation.
Examination information
The course grade is determined by evaluating the quality of the presentation given by the student.
