Description

The Art of Violence Since the last war, Modern Art has been haunted by an obsession that has largely taken possession of it: violence. Through the most varied means, it continually represents what Walter Benjamin, speaking of photography, called the “crime scene”, namely the traces of history. Art is no more than a machine producing some kind of ruin, and this evidence, which defines modernity, is now more relevant than ever. From the arts of the image to the arts of the stage, without any restriction of medium or discipline, through the semester we shall study the most inventive works that have turned violence into an existential theme in which the sense of tragedy prevails.
