Description
The course offers an introduction to the history and theory of photography, focusing on some of the most significant approaches and artists to have enriched the discipline over the years. Aspects of documentary photography, portraiture, urban and landscape photography will be explored by analysing the eye of some of the most important photographers in the modern and contemporary periods. Together with the visual itinerary, the course will propose a textual approach based on the assumptions of the major theorists. Participation in the workshop held by the internationally-renowned photographer and critic Giovanni Chiaramonte is an integral and compulsory part of the course. Chiaramonte’s activity has traversed fundamental phases of the history of Italian photography, and it is informed by an intense and profound theoretical and conceptual reflection. The workshop is entitled: “The Measure of the West. A Representation of Travel”.
