Introduction to Sustainable Design

The course will convey a basic knowledge and understanding of sustainable and integrative thinking and acting in architecture: its reasons, fundamentals and principles and their application in architecture and design. In addition the course will also make it possible for each student to define his/her personal attitude and position in the vast and complex field of sustainable design. The course will alternate between lectures and practical applications: the task for the students will be to develop their own “do it yourself certification system” - a personal value system to assess their own design projects in regard to sustainable and integrative thinking. The course will establish a direct connection with the work in the design studios - centered on housing.
