Description
The course explores the creation and development of Italian design from 1945 until the present in the light of relevant historical, cultural and socio-economic factors. It will examine the most emblematic case studies in the history of design in its various meanings, from product design to furniture, engineering and corporate design. Study of the work of designers (Castiglioni, Ponti, Nizzoli, Zanuso, Magistretti, Sottsass, Mendini, etc.) and companies (Olivetti, Kartell, Azucena, Brionvega, etc.) will bring out issues such as: relations between form and function; legacy and critique of the modern project; ties between design, arts and architecture; standardization and craftsmanship; testing of new materials; social change.
