Project BSc2-II: Housing

The second semester starts with the exercise of Redrawing of significant architectures and housing references. This practice allows students to acquire in a short period of time design tools related to the theme of collective housing and will be introduced, as usual, by a one-day visit to Milan. The annual theme of “ The Craftsman" will be further explored with a trip to Germany to experience the excellent architectures of Dominkus and Gottfried Böhm, Rudolf Schwarz, Heinz Bienefeld, James Stirling, Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe and Peter Zumthor. The theme will be extended to the scale of the large building, to its structural, constructive and distributive peculiarities. Semantics and meaning, in the case of urban buildings, will play a crucial role in the formal and conceptual definition of the project. We will design a collective housing building in the city of Porto, on the sites that we will have already visited and surveyed during the trip of the first semester.
