Description

There are multiple kinds of boundary: geo-political, natural boundaries, imaginary boundaries, etc. The proposed site is Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The city has an immense preserved green area, with a continuous boundary between city and forest. Brazil has an immense housing deficit and the favelas are actually a solution, found by those who need to invent their home. What happened in Rio is irreversible: the favelas occupied part of the preserved green area. The state tries to contain its growth by building walls, but we know that walls contain nothing. The studio proposes to replace these walls with collective housing. The intention is that the housing projects allow everyone to be connected to the forest through better public areas. The housing project binds the preserved green area and the informal built area together. We will consider both the informal routes already placed and the scale of the informal houses that reinvent themselves everyday.
