Description

Constructing space The link between structural and spatial properities of wood and the physical act of building will be the core of the semester. At a time when correspondance between inner logic and appearence of construction is questioned, wood invites us to translate ideas into readable building processes. The semester will consist of two acts: initially a workshop, where students together will design and build a 1:1 scale pavillion in a granite stone quarry, situated north of Bellinzona. Eventually, students will work individually on their own projects, a wooden construction to host events, meetings and expositions, freely interpreting scale, function and site. Results will be represented in 1:10 scale full models. Supported by atelier lectures, consultations with specialists, artisans and also by the physical experience, each student will become aware of the link between design and execution.
