Description
Through diversified approaches – historiographical, morphological, historical, sociological and anthropological – the course will study some key monuments of Romanesque architecture in their historical context and their function as great theatres of the sacred. Redesigned in 19th-century restorations, their aura of restrained gravity met with phases of profound aesthetic appreciation by various members of the artistic and architectural avant-gardes in the 20th century. The course will analyse reflections of Romanesque in some of their works. Two field trips are planned, one to Como, the other to Giornico and Negrentino.
