Typological and Distributional Characters of Buildings

Description

The series of 12 lectures introduces second-year students to the principal topics at the centre of the design and production of contemporary housing, with a particular focus on the typological and distributional characters of some buildings that are significant for the research into the urban residence in the twentieth century, from the scale of the home unit and its parts to that of the building and its relation to the city. In the multiplicity of forms of collective housing in the European city, the course identifies a series of recurrent elements (typological characters) that are analysed by various approaches, both critical-historical (genealogy, ideology), and in relation to specific aspects of an architectural character (spatial hierarchies, tectonic expression, building methods).
