The profession and life in general entail coping with all kinds of situations and decisions. At times the decisions are difficult, because the situations are intricate or adversarial or the consequences of the decisions are uncertain. The course explains some general methods for reflecting on problems and taking responsible decisions. The methods range from rational analysis of a mathematical or scientific kind to aesthetic or artistic judgments, from individual reflection on personal choices to the resolution of conflicts in joint choices and ways of formulating and implementing political actions in collective choices. Basically, the goal is to be able to reflect by applying various methods of analysis and understanding their advantages and limitations. The lectures, based on examples presented and discussed in class, will be given by professors from various faculties of the USI. Some of them will be held in English.
