Description
Traversing periods and authors in the history of the philosophical tradition and possibly also by analysing concrete completed works on various scales, the course seeks to focus on the cultural mediations, not only cognitive but also imaginative, that substantiate the various ideas of landscape – also as “urban landscape” – and garden. The course intends to explore this dimension rich in allegories, analogies and correspondences. The philosophical implications are innumerable, in connection first of all with the crucial relationship, starting from the great modern strand of thought, between the state of nature and the civilised state. In the landscape it will also be possible to see the posthumous life of that “savage” that both Hobbes and Rousseau evoked, inaugurating myths and political models perhaps not yet exhausted.
