Description

The course will deal with the stylistic and typological evolution of the architecture and art of the ancient State of Milan in the 15th and 16th centuries through an analysis of the most important sacred buildings in the area and the artworks kept in them: above all, the Charterhouse of Pavia and Milan and Como cathedrals, whose construction and artistic developments will be one of the main strands of the course. We will also explore most important figures in Milanese painting, sculpture and architecture of the period, from Bramante and Leonardo to Vincenzo Foppa, Bramantino, Bernardino Luini and Cristoforo Solari. The most important works by these protagonists of the Lombard Renaissance will be analysed both in the Milanese context and in relation to the coeval output of other artists active in Europe and the Italian peninsula.
