Description

The course deals with the theory and practice of architecture in the  second half of the 20th century, with the purpose of composing a preliminary cognitive mosaic capable of fostering a critical awareness and the ability to ask questions about the built and designed world. Starting from the anthropological and social fracture of the war, it will investigate the multiple responses of architectural culture to the premises of pre-war modernity and their evolution until the present through the identification of transversal issues. Among these: research into housing, the relation between technology and aesthetics, the autonomy of architecture as an art form, the role of history and utopia, public perception of architecture, the stratification of the European city. Architecture built will be accompanied by architecture described, imagined and contested, as well as the network of indispensable relationships that it has always established with more or less closely related disciplines.
