Description
During the conception and design of a building we have to come to grips with its contemporaneity: with available construction systems, technical knowledge, planning regulations and the rules of the art of that precise historical moment. The construction detail is the expression of a clear concept of the architectural idea in relation to its Zeitgeist destined to be projected into time. The course envisages comparisons between different constructional solutions through the analysis of case studies of buildings, recently built or on the construction site, which reveal slight differences in the technical applications of identical materials. The detail is not just a technical exercise but an inseparable correlation between idea and material embodiment, between initial architectural concept and completed building.
Objectives
Our training objective is to teach the student the knowledge of the basic principles of construction and the different materials used in architecture. To identify and verify what the principles of comfort, durability and sustainability of a construction are, so as to be able to realise projects with the right expression, structural and technical coherence, respecting the regulations. Fundamental is the learning of some design tools, such as freehand drawing of construction details in scale 1:10.
