Description
The course is divided into three sections (tracks), each worth 2 ECTS credits.
Three selected speakers — including university professors, journalists, travellers, and field experts — will teach their modules in an intensive format, alternating frontal lessons, case studies, and group work.
The course will propose the following modules in the academic year 2025-26.
1. Rolf POTTS, Vagabonding: A New Art of Travel? [March 2026]
2. Sonia FERRARI, Adine GAVAZZI, John TIERNEY, Genealogy and Roots Tourism [April 2026]
3. Classic Car Circuits and Rievocazione Storica del Circuito di Campione d’Italia Case Study (in collaboration with Victorius and Automobile Club Lugano Classic) [May 2026]
Objectives
International tourism is one of the most dynamic industries in today’s globalised world. It generates a constant flow of innovation, combining creativity, technology, and sustainability. Various academic disciplines contribute to its theoretical analysis, while new perspectives continue to emerge from society.
This course aims to reflect the evolving nature of tourism, with a focus on emerging trends such as new travel styles and expanding niche markets.

Learning methods
Frontal lecture, case studies and group work. Attendance of at least 80% of the lessons is required.
Students are expected to study the lecture slides and the reading list, which will be provided at the start of each module.
Examination information
Students will prepare and discuss an individual paper or project for each of the three modules delivered by the guest speakers, focusing on and further exploring a specific aspect of each topic. The final grade will be based on the combined evaluations of these projects.
