Maria Rikitianskaia is a Ph.D. student at the Institute of Media and Journalism of Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Lugano, Switzerland, since October 2014. She got her BS in Cultural Studies (with distinction) and MA in Cultural Management (with distinction) at the National Research University “Higher School of Economics” In Moscow. From 2010 to 2014, she was involved in different research projects and worked as a teaching assistant and a lecturer for the courses of cultural studies and history of material culture. For two years she also worked as a journalist and an editor of Russian online magazine “Opinions,” specializing in the coverage of urban and cultural developments. At the University of Lugano, her research topic is the cultural history of media in the period of 1903-1927, with the particular focus on the transnational perspective on the prehistory of radio broadcasting.
