Maria Caiata Zufferey is professor in Qualitative research in the social and health sciences at the Department of Business Economics, Health and Social Care (DEASS) of the University of applied sciences and arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), where she is also head of the health research unit since 2015. She holds a PhD in social sciences from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland). She has been teaching and research assistant at the University of Fribourg, Visiting Researcher at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in Paris and at the Imperial College of London, Senior Researcher at the Università della Svizzera italiana, and recipient of the grant Ambizione from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) at the University of Geneva. Her long-term interests include identity construction and agency in uncertain times. She has treated these topics by conducting several studies on drug addiction, on information and communication technologies for health, and on self-management of different types of risk. Based on her long experience of qualitative research projects, Maria Caiata Zufferey has taught a series of classes on qualitative methodology in several academic institutions in Switzerland.
