Pietro Majno-Hurst

Pietro Majno-Hurst was born and graduated in Milan in 1986. After training in general surgery in the UK (FRCS Engl.), he joined the University Hospitals of Geneva (HUG) in 1992. He perfected his skills in surgery and liver transplantation with Professor Henri Bismuth in Paris in 1996 and 1997, and was part of the adult and paediatric transplantation and liver surgery team at the HUG, where he directed the Multidisciplinary Centre for Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Diseases between 2014 and 2017.

 

He has authored over 200 articles published in leading medical journals. He has received awards from the Swiss Society of Surgery and the Swiss Transplantation Society.

 

Ticinese by adoption (his father was taken in as a refugee in 1943), he was appointed in 2018 as Full Professor of Surgery in the Faculty of Biomedicine USI and Director of the Department of Surgery at the EOC.

 

He is the father of four children studying between Geneva and Milan and is married to Samia Hurst-Majno, Director of the Institute of Bioethics at the University of Geneva.

 

He is involved in environmental and social matters, which he considers inseparable from health issues.
