Mario Gay was born in Mendrisio and has lived in Agra (Collina d'Oro) for about twenty years.
He holds a bachelor's degree in computer science and a master's degree in technology management.
After a period in the private sector, he worked for five years at the Swiss Centre for Scientific Computing. From 1995 to 2018 he managed the IT service TI-EDU, a cooperation established between USI, SUPSI and Canton Ticino with the aim of providing ICT services to the academic teaching and research sector in Italian-speaking Switzerland. Since 2019 he is responsible for the IT Service of USI.
Mario Gay represents USI on the Working Group of Swiss University IT Service Managers (ASIUS), on the Foundation Council of SWITCH (the operator of the Swiss academic communications network) and on the Committee of the Council of SWITCH and is a member of the expert group for the evaluation of CUS P-5 projects.
