Biography

Giulia Mugellini is Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer at the Faculty of Communication Sciences since September 2016.

Her research focuses on the measurement of corruption and transparency in public administration and their impact on public service users’ satisfaction; and on the evaluation of anti-corruption policies. She has an in-depth knowledge of various social research methods, both quantitative and qualitative and statistical data analysis.

Her ten years expertise in this field of research has benefited from various experiences both at academic level and with international organizations. She has been working on several national and international projects analysing the perception and experience of corruption and transparency issues among individuals and businesses, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, the European Commission and the United Nations. Since 2011, she is external consultant for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime on projects related to the measurement of corruption and economic crime.

She has edited one book and published several scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, and chapters in academic books edited by leading publishing houses (SAGE, Springer, Palgrave Macmillan, Dike Verlag, Stampfli, Franco Angeli).

She holds a Ph.D. in Criminology from the Catholic University of Milan, an M.A. in Applied Social Sciences from the Catholic University of Milan and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Bologna.

Before joining USI, she has been working as a researcher in social sciences and criminology first at the University of Zurich, and then at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland). She worked as as Adjunct Professor at the Catholic University of Milan (Italy) from 2011 to 2016. She has also been cooperating with international research centers and organizations, such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in Vienna (Austria), the Center of Excellence in Statistical Information on Government, Crime Victimization and Justice, in Mexico City (Mexico), the Swiss Arms Survey, in Geneva (Switzerland), and the Joint Research Center on Transnational Crime (Transcrime) in Milan (Italy).

At USI she is also lecturer of the course on “Corruption in public Administration”.
