Silvano Balemi


Silvano Balemi is head of Research and Development at Zumbach Electronic, one of the leaders in the field of in-line measurement systems for the cable, plastics and steel industry.He is a lecturer within the ALaRI institute of USI.
He was a Professor at the University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland where he was responsible for the activities of applied research and development in electrical engineering and head of the Mechatronics Laboratory.In the past he was project leader at Steria Informatic (where he participated to the development of the traffic supervision system of the Swiss national railways) and at Invertomatic Technology, where he led the development of the first trafoless UPS system of the company.

Dr. Silvano Balemi holds a degree in electrical engineering from ETH in Zurich (1987), a M.S.E.E from Caltech (1988) and a Ph.D. from ETH Zurich with honors (1992).


His current interests are in precision measurement systems and precision control systems including power electronics systems and miniaturized mechanical and optical systems. The emphasis of his work is on the implementation of control and on-line optimization algorithms. This includes in particular rapid prototyping methods and investigations on numerical implementation issues.
