Abstract

The research project is in the field of the mathematical modeling of urban growth processes. Among the numerous models developed in recent years, the ones based on the use of cellular automata (CA) seem to be particularly interesting and powerful. The main aim of the research project is to develop a model of CA with features which are suitably investigated by means of the theory of stochastic processes and related statistical mechanical methods. The deterministic quasi mean value equation derived from the master equation entering the model will be used in order to investigate some global features of the urban system as phase transitions and bifurcations. The interplay between CA and the corresponding master equation will be also useful in the problem of the parameters estimation of the model. Integration of a socio economical sector as well as applications to real cases are also planned.
