Abstract

The main goal of this project is to understand the impact of media consumption on the well-being and school achievement of students in Ticino during their transition from childhood (10 years of age) to adulthood (16 years of age). Three different data sources are used: 1) An annual survey among 1000 students starting from fourth grade of elementary school, 2) a biannual survey among students’ parents, 3) the annual report with the final grades in seven major subjects to get an objective indicator of students’ school achievement. The collected data will be analyzed together to understand the role media plays in the cognitive, psychological, physical, and social development of students taking into account different aspects related to family environment and the media themselves.
