Descriptive Geometry
People
Description
The course focuses on the clarification of the fundamental geometric principles underlying the different methods of architectural representation: orthogonal projections (plan, elevation and section), axonometry, perspective, application of the theory of shadows in orthogonal projection and in three-dimensional representations. The teaching method provides for the gradual introduction of the complexity of descriptive geometry starting from the simple elements to arrive at the representation of complex objects exemplified by all the methods described above.
Objectives
The aim of the course is to enable students to understand the representation of architectural space and objects. The mechanisms of representation are clarified through the introduction of the knowledge of the geometric fundamentals and the systems of visualization of the fundamental entities (points, lines, plane and solid figures). At the end of the course the student should have acquired a solid basic knowledge that will allow him/her to approach architectural drawing with a correct familiarity of the geometrical principles that are at the basis of these representations. In particular, it is considered necessary that the student has a clear understanding of the following topics: orthogonal projection of all geometric entities from simple to complex, methods of volumetric representation (axonometry and perspective), theory and application of shadows.
