Project I: Atelier Lacaille-Ayoub
People
Description
The studio will continue working on Hospitality with a focus on nomadic architecture.
The artificial dualism between the sedentary and the nomadic worlds is not universal. Indeed, on the margins, rather than monopolising and dominating resources, nomads build a relationship with their environment based on cooperation, exchange, adaptability and reversibility. The nomadic worlds question radically what is involved in making one’s home: shelter, soil, territory... They offer a richer definition of architecture comprising movements, passages, traces and liberties. What if the nomadic worlds were able to challenge our ways of inhabiting and invent possible answers to contemporary issues? It is a challenge to architects.
Objectives
We conceive architecture above all as a political art. Our aim is to reconsider architecture by working with inhabitants. Doing with means reconsidering the power relationships within the project. The architect is no longer the designer of shapes that come out of a given program, but a contributor to the complex process required for the emergence of an inhabited environment. Such a refoundation would allow architecture to revive the political project that it seems to have abandoned.
Teaching mode
In presence
Learning methods
The teaching approach will invite us (students, teachers, guests) to imagine, to walk, to discuss, to conceive, to build our work in close relationship with the inhabitants onsite. The atelier will be organized as a group. The work will be carried out individually and collectively.
Examination information
Presence and participation during the whole studio days is an integral part of the
assessment.
