Informatica II

Course Objectives
The goal of this course is to introduce the students to computational tools and basic principles of programming. The course will be taught in English. At the end of the course they should be able to solve simple econometric, financial, or economic problems using data analysis and numerical methods. This course builds on the material presented in Matematica I and Matematica II, Statistica I and Informatica I including matrix calculus, function optimization, simulation, and solving nonlinear equations.

Course Description
The detailed contents are as follows:

  1. An introduction to R
  2. Algebraic and logical operators
  3. R functions
  4. Flow control
  5. Numerical algorithms
  6. Optimization
  7. Application of linear algebra in econometrics
  8. Working with data
  9. Graphical representation of data
  10. Introduction to simulation
  11. Writing complete research reports using R markdown

Required Material
Slides and sample programs will be distributed on the icorsi platform. Further we will make use of “An Introduction to R” available free of charge from https://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/R-intro.pdf
