The human immune system and cancer
The immune system plays a central role in preserving an organism’s integrity. Besides the protection against infections and traumas, the immune system and cancer prevention, development and defense are intimately intertwined. This course will analyze the relationship between the human immune system and cancer development and treatment. The program will include the study of the physiological mechanisms of antitumor surveillance, immune escape mechanisms leading to the development of cancer, the available ways to restore its functions in order to treat the disease, and the detection and management of immune adverse reaction.
