Abstract
This article analyses the linguistic and metrical aspects of the Hermetic’s colour vocabulary; it identifies and analyses the most important semantic and expressive categories of the Hermetic koinè in this lexical field, providing a reasoned account of the various occurrences of colour words in the writings of the main authors that can be ascribed to the Hermetic current. Both the lyrical tradition and the new tradition of the nineteenth century will be taken into account, to offer a clearer picture and a more in-depth analysis. The article suggests that the homogeneous and controlled nature of the linguistic-stylistic features that have been considered, while seemingly marginal, is instead capable of shedding more light on the community and supra-personal attitudes of Hermetic poets.
