Biography
Wei-Ting Chen is a licensed architect and engineer who specialises computer-Aided design/ manufacturing, programming, digital and robotic fabrication in architecture as well as is strongly interested in software development and visual computing.
He obtained a five-year Bachelor of Architecture at Tamkang University, Taiwan. During his studies, he focused on additive manufacturing, computational and parametric design methods. His research was concerned with robotic 3D printing techniques with nonplanar methods, complex geometry generating space and virtual reality techniques. He worked both in industry and academia namely as a project consultant for the development of architectural detail and geometric optimization at a façade consultant firm. And a research assistant for developing prototype systems of digital and robotic fabrication at Digital & Robotic Fabrication Lab, Tamkang University, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Chen Chen-Cheng.
In September 2021, he earned his Master of Advanced Studies in Architecture and Digital Fabrication from ETH Zürich, with Robotic Pick-and-Place involved with 3D concrete printing. Afterwards, he joined the Chair of Digital Building Technologies, Institute of Technology in Architecture, ETH Zürich as a scientific assistant. He was involved in Robotic 3D Concrete Printing with additive continuous reinforcement and multi-robotic fabrication.
Currently, he is a scientific collaborator at the Academy of Architecture, Università della Svizzera italiana in Mendrisio, collaborating with the Chair of Physical Chemistry of Building Materials, Institute for Building Materials, ETH Zürich. He focuses on software development, robotic & digital fabrication, and automation manufacturing for a prefabrication casting system.
