Abstract
Le collezioni delle biblioteche sono in un “nuovo” ecosistema informativo, costituito non solo dal mercato editoriale mondiale, dominato a livello accademico dai cinque maggiori editori commerciali (Big Five) con i loro esosi contratti a pacchetto (Big Deals), ma anche da canali “nascosti”, le shadow libraries. L’universo delle pubblicazioni accademiche è in grande espansione, non solo per il maggior numero di studenti e ricercatori, ma anche per il paradigma Publish or Perish. Purtroppo all’interno dell’Open Access gli editori predatori (predatory publishers) sfruttano i diffusi bisogni di pubblicazione, spesso senza alcun controllo della scientificità dei contenuti. I bibliotecari devono far fronte alle esigenze del crescente libero accesso alla conoscenza, selezionando cooperativamente solo le migliori e più utili risorse documentarie ed istruendo gli utenti a riconoscere la “falsa scienza”.
The libraries collections are in a new information ecosystem, made not only by the global publishing market, dominated by the five major commercial publishers (“Big Five”) with their expensive package deals (“Big Deals”), but also by hidden channels, “the shadow libraries”. The universe of academic publications is in great grow, not only because of the largest number of students and researchers, but also because of the “Publish or Perish” paradigm. Unfortunately, in the Open Access movement the predatory publishers take advantage of the widespread publication needs, often without any control of the scientific nature of the contents. Librarians must cope with the demands of increasing free access to knowledge, selecting cooperatively only the best and most useful resources and training users to recognize the “fake science”.
