Abstract
While Talent Management (TM) lacks empirical studies, we propose to adopt a practice theory-based understanding of TM to properly understand TM as an organizational phenomenon. Through an ethnographic study of a talent promotion program, we find that different TM practices can cohabit within the same activities and people, creating tensions regarding talent in the moment and potential talent in the future. Our unique study shows that TM needs empirical work documenting activity as it happens to understand the organizational processes of TM and underlying practices beyond existing typologies and categories.
