Description

Architecture and scenography are a combination of similar yet opposing arts: one eternal and immortal, the other ephemeral. The course presents 12 lectures on the stage space and directing, and an intensive design phase: study for a scenography of Samuel Beckett's Act Without Words. The project should be a revisitation/reinterpretation of a director, scenographer or a movement dealt with in the lectures. If the sketch or drawing is the basis of the study of a scenography, it is only through the design and construction of a model that one defines a space which will then be built as architecture. The course introduces students to the history of the stage space and its evolution: the playhouse is a meeting point of all the arts, a transversal phase of architectural practice and the art of set design.
