Introduction to Sustainable Design
People
Description
The course will convey a basic knowledge and understanding of sustainable and integrative thinking and acting in architecture: its reasons, fundamentals and principles and their application in architecture and design. The course will alternate between lessons, guest lectures, practical applications on case studies and field trips: the group work that will be developed during the semester will establish a direct connection with the topic of ‘Housing’, central to the design studios in the second year. In the end the students will be able to develop their own “do it yourself certification system” - a personal value system to assess the transformation strategies on the existing residential building stock in regard to sustainable and integrative thinking.
Objectives
The aim of the course is to support students in acting consciously and responsibly in their design projects: to achieve a maximum positive impact on society with a minimum of negative impact on the environment.
