Elements of Landscape Architecture

Partendo da una riflessione sull’idea di paesaggio secondo prospettive diverse (filosofia, geografia, arte, architettura, architettura del paesaggio), e dall’approfondimento di alcuni temi significativi (la differenza tra natura e paesaggio, il paesaggio come immagine, come sistema, come costruzione tettonica, come spazio), nel corso si analizzano i fenomeni generatori del paesaggio, la sua tettonica naturale (geologia, clima, idrologia, erosione, sedimentazione, biologia, ecologia), il paesaggio come costruzione e come cultura. Il discorso è illustrato attraverso vari esempi: dai proto-paesaggi della preistoria ai paesaggi post-industriali e globali; la memoria e il valore simbolico nel paesaggio; il paesaggio come costruzione vernacolare e come prodotto culturale; l’architettura del paesaggio.

To acquire the notions indispensable to the study and understanding of the landscape; To know the meaning of the terminology used in the study of the landscape, the differences between nature and landscape, landscape as image, system, tectonic construction and space; To know the founding elements and the natural tectonics of the landscape (geology, topography, climate, hydrology, and ecology) and to have the perception of its systemic functioning and its temporal and spatial dynamics; To deepen the knowledge of the landscape as a cultural construction, generating memory and symbolic value for every age and generation; To understand the landscape as a collective construction in continuous transformation; To analyse a landscape and learn to read its history and corresponding spatial transformations over time starting from the analysis of cartographic, photographic and written documents; To experiment with forms of representation that clarify the reading and interpretation of the processes of construction and transformation of the landscape.
