Architecture on Display: The Sir John Soane Museum in London

People

Description

The subject of this lecture course is what is presumably the most romanticized and no less admired architectural museum of all times. Ever since 1833 when Soane negotiated an (unprecedented) Act of Parliament to preserve his house and collection in perpetuity, that is exactly as it would be at the time of his death, the museum has been kept open and free for inspiration and education. The course will look in considerable detail at the genesis of the building, the constitution of its outstanding collections and the considerable influence it has exercized over architecturally inclined minds ever since.

Objectives
