Each semester is structured in two stages. A first, research stage in which topics related to the history of design and architectural criticism are addressed, and a second stage in which students develop projects tackling themes and areas of interest previously identified by the teachers. 

The project theme and the project site, as well as the research topics, vary each semester.


The Atelier aims to support students in perfecting their practical/design skills and their critical/theoretical skills.

Learning methods

Each week, students present their work through drawings and models. This is followed by a discussion and commentary session where guidelines for revision and/or further development of the project are given. On a bi/weekly basis, collective discussions are held, in order to expose the students to the work of their colleagues. Design work is typically developed in small groups of 2-3 students, exceptionally by a single student.

Examination information

Each semester includes two assessment periods. The first one in progress (intermediate critiques) and the second one at the end (final critiques). The examination sessions take place in the presence of a jury consisting of the teaching staff and a variable number of guests, typically 2 or 3. The students are required to publicly present their work, individually or in groups, presenting drawings and models of the project developed during the semester. Grades are only awarded following the final critiques.
