Description
The course will deal with the stylistic and typological evolution of the architecture and art of the ancient State of Milan in the 15th and 16th centuries through an analysis of the most important sacred buildings in the area and the artworks kept in them. The most significant personalities who characterised Milanese painting, sculpture and architecture of the period will be examined: from Filarete, Donato Bramante and Leonardo da Vinci to Vincenzo Foppa, Bramantino, Bernardino Luini and Cristoforo Solari. The most important works of art made by these protagonists of the Lombard Renaissance will be studied both in the Milanese context and in relation to the coeval artistic production of other artists active in Europe and in the Italian peninsula.
Objectives
To know the figurative and architectural culture of the territories of the State of Milan in the 15th and early 16th century and to know how to recognise the main peculiarities also in relation to the contemporary European artistic production.
