Description
Not all actors use the floor when they dance their stories. Some hang from the sky, trying to suspend the gesture in a place of the imagination where the rules of gravity are challenged with each grasp of momentum. The stage sets then become first and foremost machines designed to project the spectators' emotions ever higher. Acrobats tame danger, challenge it in increasingly daring, vertiginous balances. Adding complexity to these stage boxes is that they have to be able to travel, have to be disassembled and reassembled like precision devices. One stage costs gigantic sums of money, so every idea has to reckon with unwritten rules dictated by the producers. "Nothing is impossible" this is the first rule when trying to push the limits of amazement, "everything must fit in 40 lorries and be assembled in two days at most" this is the equation to solve for every crazy idea suggested.
Objectives
This year we will study how to deal with the monumental, the disproportionate and the technical hazard by entering into the recesses of two stylistically similar productions. We will follow the Zurich montage of Cirque du Soleil’s Corteo at the Hallenstadium, and in Lugano the montage of Titizé on the stage of the Lac. At the same time we will try to push the limits of the imagination by imagining new technologically poetic dangers.
